Homestead Mayor Jeff Porter and Miami-Dade County School Board Vice-Chair Dr. Larry Feldman toured several schools in the Homestead area to learn more about the course these institutions are charting for the future of their students. Among the schools visited were Homestead Senior High School, Air Base Elementary, West Homestead Elementary, MAST Medical Academy and the International Education Academy.

School administrators assisted Mayor Porter and Dr. Feldman along with several school board Regional Directors and officers during their visit by guiding them through the school grounds and bringing them up to speed with the special programs offered at the respective schools. The group was able to interact with students while gaining a more thorough understanding of the school’s use of technology in the classroom and the level of engagement between the school and the parents/community it serves.

“I am impressed with the progress our schools have made and the overall culture they foster that instills a sense of pride that extends from the administration down to the student body,” said Mayor Porter. “It is important for our community leaders to know our local schools and programs and I thank Dr. Feldman for helping organize these tours.”

School Board Vice Chair Dr. Feldman is also organizing local school visits with the incoming mayor of Cutler Bay and the mayors of Florida City, Pinecrest and Palmetto Bay.
