City of Homestead police officer Jesus Gonzalez was recognized for his exceptional public service during the month of June at the Special Council Presentation in August 2014.
During the month long span, Officer Gonzalez responded to 184 service calls and served as a backup on 68 of them. He affected seven arrests and generated sixteen reports. Officer Gonzalez began his journey with the Homestead Police Department as a dispatcher and currently is on patrol on the midnight shift. Of note, was his role in apprehending a pair of brothers that were praying on area migrant workers, robbing them of their earnings and fleeing on foot into the night. Thanks to Officer Gonzalez’s diligence and the intelligence resources that he allocated, the brothers, who had previously evaded capture, were finally brought to justice which ultimately led to the closing of eight different robbery cases that, to that point, had remained unsolved.
“It is with great pride that I present you with the Officer of the Month award today,” said Mayor Jeff Porter. “The citizens of the city that you serve with distinction should rest easy that a person of your character and sense of duty keeps us all safe while the city sleeps. We are fortunate to count you as one of our own. Congratulations!”
