[ARCHIVED] Local Cheerleading Squads Recognized for Achievements

Councilwoman Patricia Fairclough acknowledged the notable achievements of two cheerleading squads that represent Homestead area schools. Said the councilwoman,” This has been a banner year for the youth that compete in athletics in our community. This evening, I would like to present two squads that have helped our city garner state titles: The Somerset Sting Rays and the Everglades Preparatory Academy Panthers.”

“Our girls have been with us for four years now,” said Coach Michelle Lageyre of Somerset, “and we’re proud to have been able to defend our National Championship this past March. With this latest title, we now stand as two-time State and two-time National Champions. We would like to thank the mayor and council as well as those who support us in our community.”

Everglades Coach Ibis Paneca also shared a few words. “We started our first squad just last year. Our girls remained undefeated after competing at the District and State levels winning first place both times. This year they duplicated those accomplishments on the State and National levels. We are blessed to have been able to accomplish so much in so little time.”

“The City of Homestead honors these two young teams for setting the standards of the future. Continue to grow that competitive spirit which could only lead to great things,” said Councilwoman Fairclough.
