During a Special Council Presentation on March 19, Councilman Elvis Maldonado took time to recognize the notable accomplishments of local eatery, Chefs on the Run, the only restaurant from Homestead to participate in this year’s South Beach Food and Wine Festival.
“I am proud to announce that one of our hometown restaurants, Chefs on the Run, was recently bestowed the Miami New Times ‘Best Bites on the Beach’ award at the Food Network South Beach Food and Wine Festival for their maple-bourbon bacon skewers with smoky chipotle mac and cheese. “Rest assured,” continued the councilman, “I will be definitely be sampling this delicious sounding, award-winning dish in the near future.”
At this point, co-owner Nelida Estrada addressed the mayor and council. “I want to thank the mayor and council and the entire City of Homestead for this special recognition. I always keep in mind that if we shine, the City of Homestead shines along with us. Hopefully, next year, we’ll win it again.”
Jodrick Ujaque, Executive Chef and co-owner of Chefs on the Run, an artist in his own right, shared some of his thoughts. “About two and a half years ago when we opened our doors,I really never thought that we would have achieved this much to this point. The experience at the wine and food festival was amazing and one of those events that I circle on my calendar every year. The surprise in people’s faces when they found out that we represented Homestead was reward enough for us.”
Chefs on the Run is located at 10 E Mowry Dr. in historic downtown Homestead.
