Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratorical Competition / Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at South Dade Senior High School, 28401 SW 167 Ave.

The fine art of oratory is the ability to deliver a message in a moving way that compels and inspires others. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was one of the great orators of the 20th century and, in honoring him, South Dade Senior High School (28401 SW 167 Avenue) is hosting its annual oratorical competition. It begins Thursday, January 16 from 7pm-9pm. All students that attend will receive 4 hours of community service. This event is FREE to the public.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Annual Breakfast / Friday, January 17, 2014 at 8 a.m. at Phicol Williams Community Center, 951 SW 4th St.

The annual Homestead/Florida City MLK breakfast at the Phicol Williams Community Center with Keynote Speaker Reverend Dr. Alphonso Jackson, Sr. Senior Pastor of Second Baptist Church. Must RSVP at 305-224-4459

Catch Despicable Me 2 at Blakey Park (32601 SW 187th Ct.) Friday, January 17 from 6 to 9 pm for FREE. Bring blankets or chairs for this outdoor movie experience!

Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade / Saturday, January 18 12 pm at SW 4th St.

The 31st Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade. Come on out and celebrate the legacy and message of one of the great leaders of the 20th century. Parade starts at 12pm at 1125 SW 4th street and culminates at Loren Roberts Park (627 NW 6 ave., Florida City.) Enjoy live music and get into the spirit of unity at this yearly favorite. “I have a Dream” Musical / Friday, January 24th 4:30 pm and 8:00 pm at Phichol Williams Community Center 951 SW 4th St.Homestead, FL

“I Have A Dream”, the musical is based on the life and times of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The play will be held at the Phichol Williams Community Center (951 SW 4th St.Homestead, FL), Friday, January 24.
