[ARCHIVED] Councilwoman Patricia Fairclough Leads a Collective Effort to Feed the Needy

For the second year running, Councilwoman Patricia Fairclough in partnership with Joshua’s Heart Foundation and Start Off Smart distributed much needed groceries to Homestead’s working poor. Whole Foods, the iconic organic grocery chain, was also a major force in the effort that took place on December 14 at Toby George Park.

Joshua’s Heart, a charity founded by a five-year-old child from whom the organization gets its namesake, is enjoying its seventh year feeding the needy through a variety of programs including supplemental food boxes, food delivery for the elderly and disabled and even a children’s clothing distribution program. Start Off Smart, an initiative by the Homestead Police Department that intelligently integrates principles of law enforcement and human services, got involved by identifying the at-risk families that would be receiving the donated provisions. Said the now twelve-year-old founder of Joshua’s Heart, “I just want every child to feel as full as I feel.”

Over fifty underprivileged families showed up to receive their groceries along with the comfort that they and their loved ones will not go without this year.Councilwoman Fairclough added to Joshua’s sentiments. “As long as we’ve got the good will of Joshua’s Heart and the powerful will to eliminate poverty and the conditions that give rise to it of our friends at Start Off Smart, the disadvantaged citizens of Homestead will always have hope for a brighter future.”
