[ARCHIVED] Homestead Public Service Energy Director Barbara Quiñones Elected President FMEA Board of Directors

Members of the Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) have elected Barbara Quiñones, director of electric utilities for Homestead Public Service Energy, as president of the organization’s board of directors.

“Board members participate in regular meetings held across the state and are charged with setting the overall direction of the organization,” said Barry Moline, FMEA’s executive director. “Barbara has established herself as a strong leader on utility issues not only in Homestead, but throughout the state of Florida. We’re honored to have her serve as our president.”

“I am pleased to be chosen to serve as an elected member on FMEA’s board. This organization is helping our state’s electric industry stay at the forefront of the nation by keeping its members informed on legislative issues and providing safety, training and customer service resources,” said Quiñones.

She added, “I think Benjamin Franklin said it best: ‘We must indeed all hang together, or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately.’ FMEA is a good example of this statement … by bringing together our local communities, the organization is assuring that our priorities remain focused on the consumer.”

Quiñones has more than 25 years of engineering and electrical facility operations, maintenance and construction experience. She is a graduate of Georgia Tech with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minor certification in Spanish.

Other officers appointed to the FMEA board include President-Elect Bud Para of JEA; Vice President Mike New of Alachua and Secretary-Treasurer Nona Jones of Gainesville.

The Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) represents the unified interests of 34 public power communities across the state, which provides electricity to more than 3 million of Florida’s residential and business consumers.
