The City of Homestead proudly recognized and celebrated, the remarkable achievements of the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO), Region 805, during a special presentation attended by Councilman Larry Roth. The event was a momentous occasion to honor the exceptional efforts of the young athletes and their dedicated coaches who participated in the AYSO National Games held in Irvine, California this past July.
Nelson, the regional commissioner for AYSO Region 805, shared the inspiring journey undertaken by these talented young soccer players. With the generous support of several council members who contributed donations, they embarked on an incredible adventure, raising funds and rallying community support, to compete in what is often referred to as the "World Cup" for AYSO. This journey from Homestead to California was a dream come true for the kids, and their determination paid off in a big way.
The AYSO Region 805 teams represented Homestead with pride and showcased their skills on a national stage. Councilman Roth acknowledged the hard work, dedication, and unity of these young athletes, stating, "It's one thing to hear from the coaches and adults, but it's another to hear from the kids who actually experienced it!"
The awards ceremony saw the recognition of several teams, with the U-12 Boys securing an impressive second-place finish in their group during their first national appearance. The all-girls U-14 team displayed remarkable talent and teamwork, securing a commendable fourth-place finish out of 16 competing teams in their bracket. Meanwhile, the U-16 girls exceeded expectations by finishing seventh nationally and earned praise not only for their performance on the field but also for their exceptional sportsmanship and class both on, and off the field.
In addition to the certificates presented to the players, the coaches received plaques in recognition of their dedication and hard work in preparing the teams for the national competition. Councilman Roth emphasized the importance of providing opportunities and support to the youth in the city, promising continued assistance to these young athletes and encouraging them to come forward whenever they need it.
The presentation concluded with a heartfelt message from some of the team captains, who shared their unforgettable experiences, highlighting the bonds formed, the joy of representing Homestead, and the gratitude they felt toward the community, coaches, and parents who made it all possible.
