Councilwoman Patricia Fairclough-Staggers recognized the exceptional commitment and dedication of Carla Thompson-Salters to Laura C. Saunders Elementary School. In a heartfelt gesture, Councilwoman Fairclough-Staggers presented a commemorative plaque to Mrs. Thompson-Salters, who served as the school's Head Security for an impressive 39.5 years before retiring.

Carla Thompson-Salters has dedicated her life to ensuring the safety and well-being of the students and staff. “I want you to know that in the City of Homestead we are proud of your investment into our city and into our children. When you walked into the school this was the first face you see and she’s smiling but she’s protecting,” remarked Councilwoman Fairclough-Staggers.

Each morning, Ms. Thompson-Salters would greet all 565 kids with a cheerful "good morning" and a friendly hello, creating a positive and nurturing environment within the school premises. “Nobody knew when a child walked through those doors whether they had a meal the night before or were hurting but I knew immediately when they needed a hug or an encouraging word to get them through the day,” she explained.  Her kind words and genuine interest in the students' well-being made her a beloved figure among the school community.

After almost four decades of service, Carla Thompson-Salters has decided to embark on the next chapter of her life, marking her retirement from Laura C. Saunders Elementary. While bidding farewell to her role, she does so with excitement and anticipation for the adventures that lie ahead.

Councilwoman Fairclough-Staggers commended Carla Thompson-Salters for her exceptional dedication, loyalty, and the positive impact she has had on the students and staff at Laura C. Saunders Elementary. The commemorative plaque presented to Mrs. Thompson-Salters serves as a token of gratitude from the city and the school community, symbolizing their appreciation for her years of service.
