[ARCHIVED] Director of HPS Energy Reelected as Chair of Statewide Power Agency

HPS FMPA Election

Homestead Public Services Energy Director Barbara Quiñones was reelected Chair of the Board of Directors for the Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA).   This is her second term as Chair. Quiñones previously served as FMPA’s Vice Chair and has been a member of FMPA’s Board since 2009. She is also a board member and past president of the Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA), a trade association representing Florida’s public power utilities.

“I’m honored to represent Homestead in this statewide leadership position,” said Quiñones.  “This is yet another way that HPS is striving to do the best for our customers by advancing their interests to ensure they have reliable public power.”

FMPA’s Board of Directors makes policy decisions for the power supply projects of FMPA, except the All-Requirements Project. Each of FMPA’s 31 members appoints one representative to the Board of Directors. A Nominating Committee recommends a slate of officers to the Board, and officers are elected by popular vote of the members.

FMPA is a wholesale power agency owned by municipal electric utilities in Florida. FMPA’s mission is to provide low-cost, reliable and clean power, plus value-added services for FMPA’s owner-customers that benefit their communities and customers. The 31 members of FMPA serve nearly 2.6 million Floridians and employ more than 3,700 people. For more information on FMPA, visit
