The City of Homestead Finance Department is co-sponsoring a free webinar, along with Housing Opportunities Project for Excellence (HOPE), Inc. and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, on Fair Housing & Civil Rights Related Programs Requirements for Recipients of Federal Financial Assistance. The workshop will take place Thursday, July 30, 2020, from 10am until 2pm via Zoom. Closed captioning will be provided by Florida Relay Conference Captioning and Sprint.
The half-day training will guide participants through an exploration into fair housing, civil rights, and disability-related federal regulations and laws. It is intended for recipients and sub-recipients of federal financial assistance such as CDBG, NSP, and HOME, as well as individuals and entities who do not receive federal funding. Key topics that will be addressed include:
- Fair Housing Laws
- HUD’s Affirmative Fair Housing Marketing Plan requirements
- Section 504 and Reasonable Accommodations for People with Disabilities
- Use of Criminal Records by Housing Providers
- Violence Against Women Act
- Medical Marijuana
- Best Practices
