City of Homestead Addresses “New Normal” as Florida Begins to Open after COVID-19

New Normal Graphic

As the City of Homestead begins to move towards a “new normal” in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, City Officials are reminding residents that the emergency orders mandating the closure of non-essential business and mandating the use of facial coverings while visiting essential businesses or locations where social distancing will be difficult are still in effect.  Further, the City would like to remind residents that the Florida Governor’s order regarding the Safe. Smart. Step-by-Step Plan for Florida’s Recovery specifically excludes Miami-Dade County.

However, the City is looking to the future and considering the safest and smartest ways to move towards a new normal while following guidelines designed to prevent an additional spike in COVID-19 cases.  Already, the City has opened the following parks for limited use: Blakey Park, Audubon Park, South Audubon Drive, Mayor Roscoe Warren Municipal Park, James Archer Smith Park, and Homestead Sports Complex.  These City parks are open from 7am to 8pm for passive use only such as walking, jogging, biking, or rollerblading.  The key indicators that will help determine when the City of Homestead can implement openings in other areas include a downward trajectory in reported symptoms, a downward trajectory of reported COVID-19 cases, and a robust testing and treatment infrastructure.
