The City of Homestead’s Emergency Management Staff continues to address the COVID-19 pandemic with public safety measures designed to decrease transmission of the virus and protect residents and staff. As of 10am, Tuesday, April 7, 2020, there are 182 reported cases of COVID-19 in Homestead. This number includes areas outside of the City of Homestead that still have a Homestead postal address. Current City of Homestead safety measures in place include:
Nightly curfew in effect from 10pm to 5am. No one may be outside during curfew hours without a valid purpose such as getting access to medication or health services; providing police, fire, or other governmental services; providing assistance per the request of police, fire, or other government personnel; going to or from work; or going to or from providing assistance to an individual with a disability or medical need or who is vulnerable to COVID-19. The curfew does not prohibit walking dogs or other pets.
Enforcing social distancing guidelines in essential businesses, as well as enforcing closures for non-essential businesses in accordance with Miami-Dade County Emergency Orders. All residents are encouraged to wear masks when going out in public and must maintain six feet distance between themselves and others.
All City Facilities, except the Police Department, are closed to the public. This includes all City Parks, City Hall, Development Services, and the Solid Waste Drop Site. All events hosted at City facilities have been canceled or postponed until further notice.
The Seminole Theatre has suspended all events and performances through April 30, 2020.
The City will be following the guidance of Miami Dade County Public Schools on their extracurricular and sports policy. As such, the Police Athletic League (PAL) Gym and all youth sports leagues and PAL afterschool programming has been suspended.
City services such as Water, Electric, and Sanitation including garbage pickups are running as normally scheduled and Homestead Public Services has suspended non-payment shut-offs and waived all late fees.
