[ARCHIVED] City of Homestead Coronavirus Update

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention consider Florida to be at low risk for spread of the coronavirus, but the City of Homestead is in contact with Miami-Dade County, the State of Florida, and other agencies following the latest guidance.

Again, while there is a low risk of coronavirus spread throughout Florida, the CDC recommends individuals and families follow everyday preventive measures like:

  • Staying home when you are sick. At the present time, these symptoms are more likely due to influenza or other respiratory viruses than the coronavirus.
  • Covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue, then throwing it in the trash.
  • Washing hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.  If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with 60%-95% alcohol.
  • Routinely cleaning frequently touched surfaces and objects like doorknobs.

Use of these measures helps to increase community resilience and readiness for responding to an outbreak.

If you think you may have been exposed to the coronavirus or require additional information, you can call the Bureau of Epidemiology 24/7 at (850) 245-4401 or visit the CDC at
