As Hurricane Dorian approaches, Homestead Public Services Energy encourages its customers to be prepared and check their hurricane plans. With wind and rain impacts to Homestead still possible, there may be power outages. Customers can report these by calling 305-224-4800 or going online to www.cityofhomestead.com/outage.
HPS Energy further reminds customers to never approach a downed power line and to remember the “three don’ts” when using generators: don’t run a generator in the house; don’t run a generator in the garage; and don’t plug the generator directly into your home’s main electrical system. Do run the generator outside in a well-ventilated area and do plug individual appliances directly into the generator.
Once it is safe for restoration crews to begin work, they will prioritize main circuits before moving on to branch circuits and individual homes. This approach allows HPS Energy to restore power to the most customers as quickly as possible. Customers should keep in mind that some homes may take longer to restore due to excess damage.
Customers can find information on recommended storm preparations, emergency kit contents, and emergency contact information online at www.cityofhomestead.com/preparedness.
