Councilman Elvis R. Maldonado along with the Homestead Education Committee and La Ley Sports are working on producing an academic game show for Homestead students to compete in a battle of the minds that will challenge students’ knowledge of various subjects.
The goal of the game show is to encourage academic achievement in Homestead as students strive to learn to be able to compete and win prizes in a fun environment. The School Challenge Game Show will be open to all Homestead students and will offer prizes to the team who answers correctly the highest number of questions on geography, math, science and language arts.
Councilman Maldonado, who is the Council’s Liaison to the Homestead Education Committee, recently hosted a pilot of the game show in which students from Keys Gate Middle School and Campbell Drive Middle School participated in the competition. The successful pilot, which serves to test the program, can be watched in the following YouTube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txEM7RF4b0c
“I am very proud that the academic game show will be fully launched this year,” said Councilman Maldonado. “We have been working diligently to create a public-private partnership to develop this program that will encourage children to study and will also teach them about technology and TV production. It will be a great experience for the students and a great accomplishment for the Homestead Education Committee.”
The first official show is set to air sometime after the FCAT, so stay tuned to www.cityofhomestead.com for more information on registering students for this battle of the minds.
