[ARCHIVED] Relay For Life of Homestead & Florida City Name Councilman Elvis R. Maldonado 2013 Honorary Chair

The American Cancer Society proudly announced their selection of Councilman Elvis R. Maldonado as honorary chair for the 2013 Relay For Life of Homestead and Florida City. On the February 20 Homestead City Council meeting, at 5 pm at The William F. “Bill” Dickinson Community Center 1601 N. Krome Avenue Homestead, FL 33030, representatives of The American Cancer Society and Relay For Life of Homestead and Florida City Committee will be presenting Councilman Maldonado with a plaque naming him the honorary chair for the 2013 Relay For Life.

“Relay For Life continues to impact many lives in the fight against cancer year after year, right here in Homestead,” said Councilman Maldonado. “I have participated in the Homestead Relay for Life for many years and I am so proud to be this years’ Chair and look forward to organizing a wonderful event. Fundraising is an integral part of the fight, through the participation of a few we can affect many, bringing much needed programs and services that continue to support those in our community who have been diagnosed or caught in the wake of this terrible disease.”

Councilman Maldonado is a long time supporter of American Cancer Society and the Relay For Life. As a proven leader and proactive member of the Homestead Community, he will serve as an advocate and supporter of Relay For Life, and serve as a resource to those community members looking to get involved and give back to the beautiful City of Homestead.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is an overnight community celebration where individuals and teams camp out, barbecue, dance, and take turns walking or running around a track “relay” style to raise funds to fight cancer. At nightfall, participants will light hundreds of luminary candles around the track in a moving ceremony honoring cancer survivors as well as remembering those lost to the disease. It is an opportunity to help the American Cancer Society create a world with less cancer and more birthdays by helping people stay well, get well, find cures and fight back.
