Together we grow, together we dream, together we are Homestead, and together we rise. A theme of unity and cooperation reflected throughout the 2017 State of the City: Together We Rise, which showcased the exciting new developments of the past year and Homestead’s vision for a brighter future together.
Hundreds of Homestead residents, City Council members, community leaders, and distinguished dignitaries filled the seats of the recently restored Seminole Theatre for Mayor Jeff Porter’s 2017 State of the City, Together We Rise. Guests mingled in the elegant lobby of the theater while waiting for the auditorium doors to open for the feature presentation.
The program began with Mickey McGuire, Executive Director of the Seminole Theatre, welcoming residents to the theatre that had remained closed for nearly 40 years and just celebrated a second successful showcase series. Loretta Marsicano then sang an emotional rendition of the National Anthem, followed by a solemn invocation by Pastor Russel Black. After thanking his wife Cindy and family, as well as fellow council members, City Manager and staff, Mayor Porter introduced Together We Rise.
“What we have here in Homestead is special,” said Mayor Jeff Porter. “We have a united body of elected officials, dedicated staff, and supportive residents that have allowed us make incredible progress in just a short amount of time. Together We Rise celebrates everything we have and will accomplish together as the Homestead community.”
Together We Rise features the people that contribute to Homestead’s success every day—from business owners to residents to City Staff and Elected Officials. Many of the accomplishments made in the past year were possible in part because of the May 2014 Bond Referendum, where voters showed overwhelming support for Downtown Homestead revitalization projects.
