The Homestead Community Spay/Neuter Clinic is the result of the first and only city-county partnership to offer free sterilization surgeries to South Dade. At the May Council Presentations, Councilman Jon Burgess was able to report on its runaway success.
“This was a unique opportunity to partner with Miami-Dade County Animal Services,” said Councilman Burgess, who spearheaded the partnership. “Since the clinic opened earlier this year, there have been 796 sterilizations, free of charge. Clearly, this was a much-needed service for our residents and I’m thankful that we’ve been able to help the community.”
Councilman Burgess then introduced Ms. Kathy Labrada, Chief of Shelter Operations and Enforcement for Miami-Dade County Animal Services, who spoke about the tremendous success of the clinic and the partnership with the City of Homestead. The Homestead Community Spay/Neuter Clinic, located at Harris Field, is open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday each week offering spay and neuter services, micro-chipping, and vaccinations. She also explained the County’s assistance program and resources for citizens who are trying keep their pets in their homes but are having training, medical, or financial issues.
