In a Special Presentation at the January 20th Council Meeting, Mayor Jeff Porter, Chief of Police Alexander Rolle and Major Scott Kennedy proudly announced the promotion of Lt. David DeJohn to the rank of Captain on January 18th 2016, becoming the newest member of the Homestead Police Department Command Staff.
“As the City of Homestead continues to grow, our Police Department will continue to grow as well, and we always want to recognize and foster the tremendous talent in our ranks by promoting from within,” said Mayor Porter. “Captain DeJohn is going to be a valuable resource to the Department and the City.”
At the podium with Captain DeJohn, Major Scott Kennedy recognized him as bringing a wealth of experience in law enforcement. Chief of Police Alexander Rolle added, “Captain DeJohn is exactly what we have been looking for, with his burst of energy and experience. We try to get the best of the best and he is definitely going to be an asset to our command and the department and the City of Homestead.”
Captain DeJohn has spent the last 24 years in law enforcement, starting with eight years with the Montgomery, Alabama Police Department, then moving on to spend six and half years with the Prattville, Alabama Police Department and the last nine and half years with the Homestead Police Department. With the Homestead Police Department, he spent six and half years in the Uniformed Police Division and three years with the General Investigative Unit working his way up through the ranks from sergeant, lieutenant, and now Captain.
His specialized training includes the completion of 192 hours of Senior Officers course as part of Executive Management Training with Homestead, as well as, Hostage Negotiator, SWAT-in Alabama, and Drug Enforcement Agency Task Force agent Alabama and Homestead and K-9 handler while in Alabama
. He is married to his wife Tammy, and has two children; daughter, Celeste and son, Christian, who, as of January 21st 2016, became a full time police officer with the Homestead Police Department.
