[ARCHIVED] Homestead Police Department Welcomes Three New Second Generation Reserve Officers Into Their Ranks

Many fathers dream of the day their sons will follow in their footsteps. The September Special Council Presentations marked that day for three Homestead families as Councilman Jon Burgess swore in three new Reserve Officers: Christian DeJohn, Joseph Rivera, and Michael Sincore. All three come from families with a history of law enforcement and community service.

Before he turned the mic over to Major Scott Kennedy for introductions and swearing in of the reserve officers, Councilman John Burgess addressed the standing room only audience, “It is not easy for today’s police officers to go out and protect the citizens and businesses they have sworn to keep safe. They have been taking a lot of heat as of late.” He continued, “We know what challenges are out there, so for these men and women to dedicate their lives to law enforcement is a true measure of character.”

Reserve Officer Christian DeJohn, age 22, was born in Montgomery, Alabama, and was raised in Homestead. He attended and graduated from Florida Keys Community College Police Academy in August 2015. He is currently employed with the City of Homestead Parks and Recreation. His roots are proudly in law enforcement. His mother worked with the DEA and his father, David, is a Uniform Patrol Lieutenant for the past nine years with the City of Homestead.

Reserve Officer Joseph Rivera was born and raised in Homestead and attended South Dade High School, graduating in 2012. He is received his AA Degree from Miami-Dade College in criminal justice and is pursuing his Bachelor’s Degree as well. He attended and graduated from Florida Keys Community College Police Academy in August 2015. While there, he received the PIG Award (Pride, Integrity and Guts) as a Top Shot for his firearms ability and for the highest GPA in his class. His father, Ricky, recently retired from the City of Homestead Police Department after 29 years of service and is currently a Reserve Officer assigned to Professional Compliance.

Reserve Officer Michael Sincore was born and raised in Homestead as well. He attended Colonial Christian School High School and graduated in 2006. He went on to attend Tennessee Temple University on a music scholarship and received his First Responder Certification from Miami-Dade College. From 2008 - 2011 Michael was enlisted in the Army National Guard where he was awarded medals in Leadership and Work Ethic. While at the Police Academy at Miami-Dade College- North campus, he received the Top Gun Award for firearms ability and the Community Involvement Award for his participation with the Honor Guard Detail and graduated in 2015. Michael’s family has a long history of community service and law enforcement. His father, Captain Tony Sincore, is a Uniform Patrol Captain with the City of Homestead for the past 26 years. Michael’s grandfather, Nick Sincore, is past City of Homestead Mayor and Councilman. Current Mayor, Jeff Porter, is his uncle.
