From the Office of Councilman Jimmie L. Williams, III:
In a statement on October 20th, Councilman Jimmie L. Williams, III after learning the death of Mr. Reynaldo Clayton, expressed his discontent regarding the recent influx of news articles citing the gun violence in the Southwest District of Homestead and Florida City.
“Every time for the past three weeks I look at the news, I see stories of these senseless killings, I am deeply saddened and sickened. We should be working together towards the progress of our city, not killing each other. My condolences go out to the Clayton family, and all other victims and families that are directly and indirectly affected by gun violence in our community,” said Councilman Williams.
Earlier in the year, Councilman Williams met with the City of Homestead Police Department to come up with an action plan to diminish the crime in his district. Consideration of implementing a curfew for residents is looking to be a viable proposal for the community to reduce crime. In addition to meeting with the Police, Councilman Williams has also begun to set up meetings with local churches in a series of Town Hall meetings, so that Police and City Departments are able to hear the concerns of residents.
