Homestead’s Redondo Elementary played host to this year’s Miami-Dade County League of Cities back to school donation event. Dozens of local underprivileged students received book bags, lunchboxes, and other assorted school supplies collected by the Miami-Dade County League of Cities for the 5th Annual Back to School Drive.
“It is always in our best interest to ensure the success of the next generation,” said Councilman Jon Burgess, who is serving as the first President of the League to come from Homestead. “The goal of the League of Cities has always been to unite the common interests of the municipalities within Miami-Dade County and it is events like this one that really make a difference in creating a better future for all of our residents.”
This is the fifth year MDCLC has collected backpacks and school supplies to distribute to underserved youth and the second year in which it has taken place in Homestead. Last year’s giveaway took place at Homestead’s Laura C. Saunders Elementary. MDCLC was established in 1953 for the purpose of uniting the common interests of the municipalities within Miami-Dade County.
