Councilman Maldonado Appointed to Florida League of Cities Legislative Committee

Florida’s economy is diverse—with tourism, agriculture, fishing, and even scientific research playing important roles for our state. So, it’s no surprise that different cities have different economic concerns. Councilman Elvis Maldonado will be representing Homestead’s interests on the Growth Management and Economic Affairs Legislative Committee with the Florida League of Cities.

Councilman Maldonado, along with other municipal officials, will partake in the development of the League’s Legislative Action Agenda for 2015-2016. This agenda primarily addresses priority issues that are most likely to affect daily municipal governance and local decision making during the upcoming legislative session. Policy committee members also help League staff understand the real world implications of proposed legislation and are asked to serve as advocates throughout the legislative process.

“It is an honor to serve on this committee as a representative of the City of Homestead,” said Councilman Maldonado. “I look forward to working with leaders from across the state to address the economic concerns we all face.”

As part of the Growth Management & Economic Affairs Legislative Policy Committee, Councilman Maldonado will help address policies specific to municipal concerns. These include community redevelopment, economic development, growth management and land use planning issues, annexation, eminent domain, tort liability, property rights, and ethics and elections.
