March is Women’s History Month, the perfect time for Councilwoman Patricia Fairclough to honor the Women of the Year for 2015, proud members of the Homestead Women’s Club. Councilwoman Fairclough expressed the importance of acknowledging the valuable community work that these women do voluntarily, and in many occasions, without any type of recognition.
Councilwoman Fairclough presented each of these women with a certificate of achievement and a lovely bouquet during March’s Council Meeting Special Presentation. “At the ‘Women of the Year’ luncheon and fashion show, I felt deeply blessed to be in the company of such inspiring women with the heart to serve,” said Councilwoman Fairclough with joy, “I felt compelled to honor their efforts today, in appreciation for all the work they do for the City of Homestead.”
The Councilwoman introduced Meda Jensen, member of the Homestead Women’s Club, who called the honorees up to the podium. “Sometimes these women don’t get the recognition they deserve” she explained, “which is why today we give them a small token of appreciation, compared to the large contribution they make, donating their time and tireless dedication to make our community a better place."
The honored women were: Bonnie King-Moran, Evelyn Ruiz, Joel Ann Shiffer, Lorene Strano, Audelia "Audi" Martinez, June Makis , Charlotte "Charlie" Kimball Hudson, Liz Canavan, Maria C. Garza, Marlene Porter, and there to receive the recognition on behalf of Dorothy Harden, Miss Homestead 2015 Amber Woods.
