While drivers are prepping to race for the championship at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Homestead’s National Parks Trolley will be running a special route from the Speedway’s RV Lot to Everglades and Biscayne National Parks. Thanks to a partnership between City of Homestead, Homestead-Miami Speedway, National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA), and Everglades and Biscayne National Parks, NASCAR fans will be able to enjoy free guided tours of the parks. On Thursday, November 13th routes run from the RV Lot to Everglades National Park at 9:00am and 1:54pm and to Biscayne National Park at 10:30am and 1:20pm.
In addition to the special routes, the entire weekend will feature displays at the Speedway from both Everglades and Biscayne National Parks, NPCA, and Florida National Parks Association. Park Rangers will be present on vendor row to educate fans about the wildlife and habitats found in the parks. Interactive displays will include touch tables and giveaways. Also, look for appearances by the NPCA mascot, Teddy!“Thousands of families from around the U.S. come to the race every year,” said Vice Mayor Stephen Shelley. “It was important to us to show them more of what Homestead has to offer and the National Parks Trolley is a perfect way to do it. I hope these families get a taste of something they normally wouldn’t get to see on race weekend and plan a return trip to Homestead and our neighboring National Parks in the future.”
Homestead’s National Parks Trolley launched in January to a standing-room only crowd and brought thousands of visitors from Historic Downtown Homestead to the national parks. The project also recently won three first place Savvy Awards in Community Visioning, Most Innovative Program and Graphic Design Art, as well as a third place Award of Excellence in Marketing Tools at the prestigious National City-County Communications & Marketing Association (3CMA) Savvy Competition 2014.The innovative and wildly popular program promoting eco-tourism and Homestead’s historic downtown will return from November 22, 2014 through April 26, 2015 with even more tours to meet growing demand.
