Councilman Julio Guzman

Councilman Julio Guzman was appointed to fill Council Seat #1 in February 2019 in accordance with the City Charter's procedure for vacancy in the Seat.  He will hold the seat until the City's regularly scheduled election in November 2019.

Biographical Information

Councilman Guzman is the founder and managing broker of Essential Realty and a Homestead, FL resident for over 39 years. He received his real estate license in 2003 and quickly became well versed in the South Florida Market. In 2005 he launched Essential Realty and currently manages 35 real estate agents providing real estate related services to the community. As a HUD listing broker Councilman Guzman frequently provides home ownership educational workshops promoting home ownership and entrepreneurship.  He is married to Emily Guzman and has three children.  Together, they enjoy boating, camping, and sporting events.

Community Involvement

  • Board member at the South Dade Chamber of Commerce serving on the Community Engagement & Outreach Committee
  • Residential Board of Governors of the Miami Association of Realtors
  • Florida Realtors State Director District 4 Miami Association of Realtors
  • City of Homestead CRA Not for Profit Grant Committee assisting in the evaluation of grant applications from Not for Profit organizations and making recommendations to the CRA Board


Councilman Guzman attained a Master’s degree (MBA) in Business Administration from Florida International University in 2013 and has utilized his business acumen and team building skills to successfully establish a prominent real estate firm that has helped many families achieve home ownership. Some of his other business achievements include real estate development of custom homes and owning multiple Quizno’s Sub franchise restaurants in Homestead, FL.
