Start Off Smart, Inc. (SOS) is a 501(c) 3 organization that was initiated by the Homestead Police Department in order to integrate law enforcement with social services. This was done in order to assist victims of violence who reside in our community. We accept referral for victims of domestic violence, child abuse, human trafficking and, sexual assault, as well as the homeless and the elderly among others.
Services are provided by Case Managers who work closely with families to help them reach their goals and heal. These support services include providing a safe and nurturing environment for children, a structured plan for self-sufficiency for the victim, counseling, parenting classes, food, clothing, after school programs and educational training events. Our goal is to meet the immediate life-sustaining needs of families and children.
We know that the community shares our mission "to guide individuals and families towards independence and safety" as no child should have to grow up surrounded by violence and poverty. We are committed to ensuring that children live in a safe and nurturing environment, so that they may become productive, responsible adults.
