Vice Mayor Jon Burgess
Vice Mayor Jon Burgess was first elected in November 2007 to a two-year term as Vice Mayor and a four year term to represent Council Seat #2, which includes the city’s Keys Gate area. He was then re-elected to serve as Vice Mayor again from 2011 to 2013 and another four year term representing Council Seat #2. He is currently serving a four year term from 2015 to 2019 representing Council Seat #2.  He was named Vice Mayor in January 2019.

Current Appointments to Boards & Committees

Vice Mayor Burgess currently chairs the city’s Tourism Committee, the Art in Public Places Committee, the Customer Service / Utility Taskforce, and the Police Pension Board. He also serves as council liaison for the General Employee Pension Board and the Homestead Miami Speedway. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Florida League of Cities and is the President of the Miami-Dade County League of Cities, as well as member of its executive board. As part of his league responsibilities, he has been appointed to the Miami-Dade Sports Commission.

Biographical Information

Vice Mayor Burgess attended Western Carolina University. He has lived in South Florida for 22 years and has called Homestead home for the past 15 years. He and his wife, Charelle, have one son. Vice Mayor Burgess is currently employed as a US Merchant Marine Captain and has been in this industry for 25 years. Prior to being elected he served on the city’s Charter Review Committee and the Eastlake Advisory Committee.
