Human Relations Board

On September 12, 2002, the Homestead/Florida City Human Relations Board (HRB) was established by the Mayors of Homestead and Florida City.  The HRB is composed of a respected diverse group of community leaders formed for the purpose of addressing the issues which impact intergroup relations and to assist in their resolution.  The HRB serves to provide advisory recommendations to the Mayor and City Commission of Florida City and the Mayor and City Council of Homestead.

Mission Statement

“To bring together diverse groups to speak in one voice to move forward in the growth of the Cities of Homestead and Florida City, to bring harmony to the communities and to make a broad statement that everyone is accepted.”

Routine activities within the jurisdiction of the HRB include:

  • To provide recommendations regarding programs that will promote greater public awareness and appreciation of issues concerning diversity, tolerance, and racial sensitivity.
  • To provide a forum that encourages and facilitates opportunities for residents of each City to discuss issues concerning diversity and tolerance among various economic, religions, and ethnic groups.
  • To provide a forum to educate and to spread awareness among the community about issues concerning diversity and tolerance among various economic, religious and ethnic groups.
  • To host the Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast
  • To review all requests for the naming, renaming or codesignation of City of Homestead streets, facilities or properties.

Meeting Schedule

The HRB normally meets the third Thursday of each month at 6:00 PM. Meetings are held in the City Manager’s Conference Room at Homestead City Hall. Please call (305) 224-4485 for confirmed meeting dates and times, or to request a meeting agenda.
