The City of Homestead's new City Hall will be located in a section of land at the intersections of Washington Avenue, Parkway Street and Civic Court between Northeast Second and Fourth Streets. The three-story, 79,580 square foot structure will be entered through a 2-story high Grand Hall on the north side that leads to the City Council Chambers, which will seat 300. City departments will be located on the south side.

The offices of the City Clerk, the Planning and Zoning Department, and the Building Safety Department will be located on the first floor to provide easy public access.

The 2nd floor is organized around an Emergency Operations Center that is designed to withstand Category 5 hurricanes. Also on this floor are offices for the Community Redevelopment Agency, the General Services Department/IT Services, and the Human Resources Department.

The 3rd floor houses the Office of the Mayor and City Council, the Office of the City Manager and the Finance Department.

The building is clad in panels of architectural cast stones and impact resistant glass. A copper roof tops the building.

The building is contemporary design based on classical proportions and historical references. The triangular parcel is bound on the north by Civic Court, on the west by Washington Avenue, and on the southeast by the Miami-Dade Transit Busway Extension.

The site development also includes an oak grove, a fountain court and an arcade along Washington Avenue suitable for art festivals and community events.

Groundbreaking is expected in the summer of 2007 with a targeted completion date of winter 2008.
