Jon Burgess was elected to a 4-year term in November 2007. He served as Vice-Mayor from November 2007 - November 2009. He is currently serving as a Councilman for the remainder of his term. Councilman Burgess holds council seat #2, which includes the Keys Gate area.

Councilman Burgess attended Western Carolina University. He has lived in South Florida for nineteen years and has called Homestead his home the past ten years. He and his wife, Charelle, have one son, who is three years old. Councilman Burgess has been a professional Coast Guard Certified Boat Captain for nearly 21 years and currently works out of Key Largo. He previously served on the City's Charter Review Committee and the Eastlake Advisory Committee.
