Current & Previous Experience
Vice Mayor Jon Burgess was re-elected in November 2011 to a four-year term in Council Seat #2, which includes the Keys Gate area. In the same election, he was also elected to serve as vice mayor for a two-year term. He was first elected to serve as a councilman in 2007 and also served as vice mayor from November 2007 to November 2009.
Current Appointments to Boards & Committees
Vice Mayor Burgess currently chairs the city’s Tourism Committee, the Art in Public Places Committee, the Customer Service / Utility Taskforce, and the Police Pension Board. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Florida League of Cities and is the second vice president of the Miami-Dade County League of Cities, as well as member of its executive board. Vice Mayor Burgess is also the Miami-Dade County League of Cities appointee to Miami-Dade Sports Commission.
Biographical Information
Vice Mayor Burgess attended Western Carolina University. He has lived in South Florida for 22 years and has called Homestead home for the past 12 years. He and his wife, Charelle, have one son, who is 7 years old. Vice Mayor Burgess has been a professional Coast Guard Certified Boat Captain for nearly 25 years and currently works out of Key Largo. He previously served on the city's Charter Review Committee and the Eastlake Advisory Committee.
