Councilman Jon Burgess

Councilman Jon Burgess was re-elected in November 2011 to a four-year term in Council Seat #2, which includes the Keys Gate area. He was also elected to serve as Vice-Mayor from 2011 to 2013. Councilman Burgess was first elected to serve as a Council Member in 2007.

Current Appointments to Boards & Committees

Councilman Burgess currently chairs the city’s Tourism Committee, the Art in Public Places Committee, the Customer Service / Utility Taskforce, and the Police Pension Board. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Florida League of Cities and is Vice President of the Miami-Dade County League of Cities, as well as member of its executive board. He also serves as council liason for the General Employee Pension Board and the Homestead Miami Speedway. Councilman Burgess is the Miami-Dade County League of Cities appointee to Miami-Dade Sports Commission  

Biographical Information
Councilman Burgess attended Western Carolina University. He has lived in South Florida for 22 years and has called Homestead home for the past 12 years. He and his wife, Charelle, have one son, who is 7 years old. Councilman Burgess has been a professional Coast Guard Certified Boat Captain for nearly 25 years and currently works out of Key Largo. He previously served on the city's Charter Review Committee and the Eastlake Advisory Committee.
