Homestead Police & City Council Honor Officer of the Month Pete Perez

Homestead Police Department along with the City Council where pleased to recognize Officer Pete Perez as the recipient of the Officer of the Month Award for the month of August. “On behalf of the command staff, Homestead Police Chief Alexander E. Rolle, Jr. and midnight shift supervisors I am honored to nominate Officer Pete Perez for Officer of the Month for August 2012 for the second time this year,” said Captain Marie Kent Operations Divisions Commander.

Mayor Steven C. Bateman also awarded a recognition to Officer Perez on behalf of the City Council for his courageous efforts, heroism and dedication to his community and profession. “He is one of the finest officers on the force and it is my honor to award him for his exemplary service,” said Mayor Steven C. Bateman

During the presentation, Captain Kent read the letter that was submitted by Lieutenant Tony Sincore for the nomination of Officer Pete Perez.

“On behalf of the Midnight Shift supervisors, I am honored to nominate Officer Pete Perez for
Officer of the Month (August, 2012) for a second time this year!Officer Perez was hired by the City of Homestead Police Department on October 16th, 2005.
Officer Perez is assigned to Uniform Patrol, currently working Midnight Shift.

In August, 2012 Officer Perez made twenty-two (22) arrests (10 felonies /12 misdemeanors);categorized as: 6 narcotics arrests (4-felonies/2 misdemeanors), 4 arrests for robbery (felonies),
4 warrant arrests (i-felony / 3- misdemeanors), 4 arrests for providing false information to alaw enforcement officer (misdemeanors), 2 traffic arrests (misdemeanors), 1 child neglect
(felony) and 1 domestic battery (misdemeanor). In addition, Officer Perez issued 15 trafficcitations, and made 26 citizen contacts (F.I. cards) seeking out other potential subjects
throughout the City during his shifts. Further, Officer Perez was the primary unit dispatched tocalls for service and self-initiated extra security watches in neighborhoods and businesses
totaling 223 primary calls for service.Expanding on Officer Perez' four arrests for robbery on August 8th, 2012, Officer Perez was
conducting an ex-watch on the Busway between 5W 4 Street and SW 8 Street when OfficerPerez noticed four males walking northbound. One of the males threw down a pair of gloves as
Officer Perez approached them. As back up units arrived, Officer Perez interviewed the malesseparately which led to the males admitting they were in Homestead looking to rob people.
Further interviewing led to three of the males admitting they burglarized a school in FloridaCity, stealing two computers from the school. Remembering a theft of computers from Ace
Academy (a special needs school) in Florida City, Officer Perez diligently sought out and gainedcooperation from the offenders to take him on location in Florida City to recover the
computers; both computers were recovered in excellent condition. The computers werereturned to Ace Academy just prior to the start of the school year! ('The two computers were
valued at over $16,000.00 dollars). Subsequently, Florida City Detective Bureau was able toclear six arrests for burglary that occurred at Ace Academy from Officer Perez' subjects.
Florida City Police Detective Joey Shiver advised he has worked with Officer Perez in the pastand is impressed with Officer Perez' investigative skills and how he particularly handled this
case. According to Detective Shiver, there were no subjects or leads to follow up on in regardsto the stolen computers. Detective Shiver pointed out, "Both of our communities benefited
today because of the dedication Officer Perez has for law enforcement".Officer Perez is consistently a top worker, a leader, setting a standard for others to follow.
Officer Perez' work ethic is second to none, with a resolve for a healthier community.It is with great pleasure that Officer Pete Perez is nominated for Augusts' Officer of the Month,
2012. Congratulations for a job well done!”
